As a core zone for national energy security and a key hub of the Belt and Road Initiative, Xinjiang holds 50% of the country's newly added oil and gas reserves and hosts a trillion-yuan-scale energy and chemical industrial layout. The 2027 Xinjiang International Chemical Technology and Equipment Fair (CTEF Xinjiang) will be held on July 15–17, 2027 at the Xinjiang International Convention and Exhibition Center, running alongside the 2027 Xinjiang International Petroleum and Chemical Technology and Equipment Exhibition, the Silk Road Mining Cooperation Forum, the 17th China Xinjiang International Mining and Equipment Expo, and the 22nd China Xinjiang International Coal Industry Expo. The fair is expected to span 40,000 square meters, gathering 500+ global enterprises and industry leaders including PetroChina, Sinopec and CNOOC, and attracting 30,000+ professional visitors from 14 countries in the Belt and Road core region. It will form a full industrial-chain platform covering petroleum and petrochemicals, natural gas, oil and gas pipeline transportation, coal chemicals, salt chemicals, chlor-alkali chemicals and fertilizers across Northwest China — helping companies seize the regional energy equipment market and open the gateway to Central Asia.
Recently, at the construction site of Hengyi Energy Technology (Turpan) Co., Ltd.'s 2.4-million-ton-per-year coal-to-ethylene glycol (MEG) project producing high-quality fiber-grade MEG in Aiding Lake Town, Gaochang District, large construction machinery has been operating in shifts while thousands of workers race ahead with civil foundation works, equipment prefabrication, welding and other tasks across multiple work fronts.

At present, construction across all sections of the project is advancing steadily: rebar binding on the first floor of the main powerhouse building, earthworks at the strip coal yard, structural steelwork up to the fourth floor of Boiler No. 1 and first-floor works of Boiler No. 2 are all taking shape, while formwork and welding of the gasification unit's frame columns have been fully completed.
According to project officials, civil construction has now fully commenced across the underground piping, perimeter walls, air separation, gasification, purification and power sections, with all tasks being accelerated on schedule.

It is understood that the project started construction on March 20, 2026, with a planned 5–8 years to completion and commissioning. Once Phase I reaches full capacity, it is expected to create more than 1,700 jobs and add over RMB 12 billion in annual output value. The project will be developed in two phases to build an integrated coal-chemical, fiber and new-materials base, forming a vertically integrated industrial cluster of "coal – ethylene glycol – polyester new materials" — charting a high-end, green and integrated development path "from a lump of coal to a bolt of fabric" for Xinjiang's clean and efficient coal utilization industry.
Once completed and commissioned, the project will fill the gap in Xinjiang's polyester chemical-fiber chain. Leveraging its location advantages in the Silk Road Economic Belt core region, it will serve as a new-materials hub radiating across Northwest China and reaching Central Asia — of major significance for securing the domestic supply of chemical-fiber feedstock, strengthening the energy and chemical industrial chain, and driving high-quality regional economic development.
The 2.4-million-ton/year high-quality fiber-grade coal-to-ethylene glycol (MEG) project of Hengyi Energy Technology (Turpan) uses lignite from the Aiding Lake mining area as feedstock. The coal is gasified with Aerospace Mayway gasifiers to produce syngas, which undergoes shift conversion and purification to separate carbon monoxide and hydrogen. The CO reacts with purchased methanol and self-produced nitric acid to produce dimethyl oxalate (DMO), which is then hydrogenated with hydrogen to produce ethylene glycol. The project also includes an ammonia plant, with the ammonia serving as feedstock for the nitric acid unit.
The project covers 253.75 hectares, with a total investment of RMB 25.7 billion, of which RMB 1.55 billion (6.03% of the total) is earmarked for environmental protection. It adopts Pujing Chemical's complete ethylene glycol process technology and proprietary catalysts, with China Chengda Engineering handling the engineering design.

Hengyi Energy Technology (Turpan) Co., Ltd. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Zhejiang Hengyi Group Co., Ltd. Hengyi Group is one of the world's largest chemical fiber enterprises, headquartered in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, with current capacities of 8 million tons of refining, 23.2 million tons of PTA, 13.5 million tons of polyester, 500,000 tons of CPL and 520,000 tons of nylon. Hengyi's coal-to-ethylene glycol deployment in Xinjiang can both fill the upstream short board of the polyester industry chain and achieve independent control of raw materials, and also get rid of the constraints of crude oil price fluctuations through raw material structure optimization, lower the industrial chain cost, and enhance the profitability resilience of the whole industrial chain.
